Butler Township Supervisors (Luzerne County) announced that the exemption period for open burning in Butler Township will begin Monday, April 15th and extend through May 4th, 2024. A permit is not required for open burning in the Township during this time. The fire department does not need notification when burning. All burning must be supervised.
The hours for burning are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Burning is not permitted on Sunday.
Residents are reminded the exemption period is for leaves, yard and garden clean-up only, and not for burning household items. The Supervisors reserve the right to cancel the open burning period should conditions become too dry.
