  Butler Township Police are issuing a warning and requesting information concerning a distraction burglary.  The incident occurred around 4:45 pm Tuesday (9/2/2014) afternoon in the 1200 block of St Johns Road.  2 suspects lured 2 neighbors out of their residence and began to talk with them about their property lines and tree trimming. 

One of the suspects slipped way and buglarized the residence of an 85 year old victim, stealing cash and jewlery.  The suspects also communicated in a foreign language using a portable radio.  The suspects were both described as Hispanic males, who were casually dressed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.  Residents are urged to be alert for suspicious activity and to lock their doors when leaving the residence, even for a short time.

The Butler Township Police is releasing photographs of a man who robbed a National Penn bank earlier today. The robbery happened at the 24 South Hunter Highway Drums, PA 18222.

At approximately 09:20 AM, the man entered the bank alone. He threatened bank employees while brandishing a firearm. The teller gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber ran out of the bank and was last seen fleeing in a green Chevrolet Pickup truck traveling north on Route 309.

No one was hurt during the robbery.  There were no customers in the bank at the time of the robbery.   A weapon was observed by witnesses to the bank robbery.

The vehicle used in the robbery was spotted in the Stockton area of Hazle Township.   The vehicle was recovered and a search of the area was conducted.  The offender was last seen in a wooded area East of Stockton Mountain Road approximately ½ mile from Route 93.

The bank robber was described as a white male, 5’9" to 5’11" tall and weighing 170-200 pounds. He wore a green mask, black hoodie, jeans, and black sneaker.

Police departments from Luzerne, Carbon, and Schuylkill Counties and the Pennsylvania State Police assisted in the investigation and search.
