Parks and Programs

Butler Township BasketballButler Township is home to several parks where people can enjoy activities and scenery in the township.

At Freedom Park on West Butler Drive in Drums, near the township's community center, groups and teams gather to play soccer, baseball and basketball.

Another venue for recreation is Butler Township Community Park along North Old Turnpike Road near the CAN DO Corporate Center. This park features ball fields, 1.5 miles of walking trails, a skate park, a playground, a pavilion and a basketball court.

Additionally, Legion Park along North Hunter Highway (Route 309) and Hemlock Street is a small neighboring park with a tennis court, play area and pavilion for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.

Also, Nescopeck State Park is located in Butler and neighboring Dennison Township. The park gives visitors ample opportunity for hiking, fishing, hunting, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The 3,550-acre park is bordered by two mountains and is complemented by Nescopeck Creek and Lake Frances. A variety of hiking trails allow for walking along the creek, climbing the mountains or hiking through forests with abundant wildlife. The park houses an environmental education center, which is open year-round to provide educational programming relative to the park.
